School for Advanced Studies at His House Children Home
School for Advanced Studies Kendall organized a food collection for His HOuse Children Home Orphanage Center. During the month of September and October, the sutdents were encouraged to bring in food item such as cereals, granola bars, peanut butter, and jelly. They needed things that would make a quick easy meal and wouldn't spoil soon. The students managed to bring over 400 items with a retail cost of $1,200.00
On October 19th, 2012, Ms. Alvarez, Mr. Coats, Vasisth SewnarainSukul and Angelica Krauss delivered the donations to the center. The donations helped transform and empty parnty inot a packed kitchen with almost no space left to walk in. After we unloaded the donations and placed it in their pantry, we were offered a tour of the center and of one the homes in which some of over 100 children live in. This home lacked house parents, and they were being taken care of, by volunteers. These children are clumped together 4 or5 to a room. They are given a place to call home, attention, and the education they need to be capable to go into society once they turn 18 years old. Their homes are decorated by IKIA. This company donates beds, linens, and whatever needs to be replaced due to daily wear. In this particular home, there were 13 children between the ages of 2 and 13. They were seating around watching TV and cuddled next to the house volunteers. It was sad to know that there are parents that will leave their beautiful children alone to be taken care of by strangers.
This was both a very fulfilling experience as well as a sad one. It makes you cherish everything you have. The students were very touched and can't wait to go back and offer more love and support to this organization.
